The Spirit

Steve and I are currently serving in the Spanish Branch here in Albuquerque. WOW! It has been a struggle but as all struggles, a blessing. I have definitely seen the Lord's hand in it all. I have learned and still learning each time I go. It is hard to get out of my comfort zone but I am trying each time.

Steve is serving in the Young Men's and it is so wonderful to see these young men learn and grow in the gospel. Many of them have not been members of the church for long, yet their testimonies are so strong and you can see it on their faces and in their eyes. What a powerful thing the gospel of Jesus Christ really is!

I play the Piano in Primary, sacrament meeting, and was recently called as a Den leader in the cub scouts. Now, I have played the piano for most of my life so you wouldn't think it would be a challenge to play but for some reason it is much harder in a different language. HAHA! It just messes with you when the words you hear as you play are not the ones you are use to! However, I am learning each week I play. The only thing I miss is SINGING! I can sing in spanish so that's not the problem but I can not play the piano and sing and I really miss singing the hymns. Music has always been a way for me to really grow close to God.

Now, I don't know much spanish. Yes, I did take 4 years in highschool and it has come in handy but it is a totally different experience when you have to USE IT! I understand more than I speak but still... understanding church vocabulary can be quite difficult. I understand a lot in primary because it is so simple, so I know it is a blessing that I was called to the primary. If it is fast and testimony meeting I understand the majority, because once again the testimonies are usually quite simple!

Throughout the entire experience I have learned mostly to rely upon the Spirit of the Lord. Because I do not understand a lot of what is going on I have to simply focus on the spirit that I feel when I am there. I know that truth is being taught there so I know that the spirit is present and I can feel each each time I go. It is actually quite an amazing experience to only rely upon the Spirit. I am greatly for the Holy Ghost and how it blesses my life in so many ways.

I am grateful to come home to a place where the spirit dwells (hopefully most of the time!) and have the gift of the Holy Ghost that helps me each and everyday to remember the covenants I made with Heavenly Father at Baptism. As you can tell, it was a wonderful Sunday and I am just so grateful for my testimony of Jesus Christ and of his gospel!

That's really cool. I went to the Chinese Sunday School class when we lived in Edinburgh and it was great to feel the spirit from the recent Chinese converts.

Wow, I think that is SO neat that you're emerging yourself into the culture like that! What a neat experience and it sounds like you're learning a lot! I would be SO scared to do something like that so I commend you on going out of your comfort zone! That is so awesome!

That's a very intimidating, but great experience. Dave tries to teach me Spanish, but it's usually at dinner time, so all I know are foods, utensils, etc. - we'll see how useful that is in the future! :) Keep it up! You're great!
