Of the stomach flu. Yes we went to Chicago to visit steve's fam for the 4th. ( I will write about that another time. ) as we are driving to the airport I start to feel really sick. I ended up throwing up before we boarded and right when we landed....I just kept praying that I wouldn't throw up on the plane, and luckily i didn't...I was blessed! The rest of the night was pretty bad but i got over it fairly quickly and spent Sunday in bed recovering. Sunday afternoon Steve starts getting sick....only his got a lot worse. I should warn you now... If you don't want to hear about this than please stop reading now,it wasn't pretty.
He threw up several times...couldnt keep anything down ane he was in so MUCH pain. It was so hard to watch. We went to bed that night, however I don't think we ever really went to bed. Steve would just moan because of how much pain he was in...... Now earlier when he had thrown up , there was some blood, but we decided to wait.....well the next time was much worse. The only thing he was throwing up was blood, and A LOT of it. So at 3 in the morning we headed to the ER.
I was so worried about him... I've never seen him like that and he looked awful!
Once we were there this is what went down. They took his vitals, he was very very dehydrated and his blood pressure was too low. They put him on liquids through an IV as well as put medicine into his IV to deal with the nausea and the acid his stomach was producing. This helped him a little bit but you could tell that he was not doing well. They took him in for x rays and then brought him back to the room. Once back I. The room the nurses put him on more liquids and then made me leave the room while they put an NG tube unto him. The NG tube was quite large. They put it in his nose and it goes all the way down to his stomach. Apparently this is not a fun process, but the nurses told me that he did really well and was able to get it down without throwing up. I was so worried about this so I was so grateful. The reason for the NG tube was to see if there really was blood in his stomach.
I came back into the room, and sure enough I could see all the blood coming out through this tube....now apparently it wasna mixture between blood and bile but there was a lot in there...about 300 cc's. I don't think the stomach wants that in there. After they got this out of him, you couldntell he was doing much better. The x rays came back normal but they didn't know why he had all of that in his stomach so they decided to give him a CT scan. Because he already had the NG tube in place, he didn't have to drink the stuff for it, they just put it right in his stomach through the tube. While we were waiting the dr. Told us that his white blood count was lower than it should be, and his blood pressure hadn't really changed much. But.... The CT scan came back normal...and we were grateful. They were talking about blocks and tears and surgery....so we were so grateful. They don't know why all of that stuff was there but it wasnout now, so they gave us lots of medicine and sent us home. We were there for 6 hours and believe me we were so grateful to be going home.
Steve received a blessing in the hospital which was another blessing!! Haha. We were also blessed with a great dr and the most incredible nurse!!! Thanks you Shaina, we are so grateful for you! Steve is doing much better now, he came home yesterday and slept pretty much the entire day... But he could sleep and we were both so grateful. Going to the ERis scary and anything to do with blood scares me.
Everyone in steve's fame got this bug but no one like him. Maybe he was sick before and thisnmade it worse, we aren't sure why it was so bad for him but we are grateful it is over and I am grateful to have my happy smiling Steven back. It killed me to watch him suffer that much.
I will write about our vacation later!!

Sheesh! So sorry to hear all of that. I'm glad everything is better now though and I hope everything with the pregnancy is going great! I'm so excited for you! But hope the sicknesses stop coming...
Wow Lauren. I can't image how scared you must have been going through all those tests. I'm sorry you had to watch im go through so much pain and I'm sorry that was in that much pain. I am so very grateful that you are both doing better and I hope you stay healthy. We love you both.
eeeekk! So sorry to hear that. I was worried about you, and didn't know Steve was sick! Hope you are both feeling better, and feeling comforted. Miss you!
Oh Lar! How horrifying!!! What a terrible thing to go through! :( Glad he's doing better, and I'm glad you didn't get it that bad too! Love you both... hope you both get 100% better soon!
That is scary! It's a toss up with the ER, you want everything to be fine, but you also want an explanation why the bad stuff is happening. Definitely not fun! So glad you're both doing better now. :)
Oh my goodness, what a scary thing for both of you! SO glad that everything was ok!!
